What is Family Connexions?

Family Connexions is a web script designed to act as a central point of contact for your family members. Uploading the script to your webspace will give your family a dedicated contact site.

Is it a family tree?

Not quite. A family tree records your families history and shows the relationship between your family members. Whilst Family Connexions will function similarly to a family tree, it is for living family members and will allow each member of the family to display their contact details. Other family members can have instant access to those details and can contact other members directly.

What can my members expect from my Family Connexions web site?

A central repository for all your families contact info, a profile for each family member, private messaging between members, family forums, view members as a tree or group complete with photos, members individual photo gallery, members file storage and sharing, reminders for birthdays and anniversaries etc, a family event calendar, family anecdotes, private or public member diaries, family story, family chat room, family announcements, members diary and appointment scheduler, family statistics and much, much more...

Family Connexions - Install

We all know how frustrating it can be trying to get a web script installed correctly and I was determined from the outset that the Family Connexions installer should be quick, simple and trouble free. There's nothing worse than uploading the files for your latest site and then running the installer only to be presented with pages of meaningless error messages.

Family Connexions takes a different approach with its' installer. All the difficult things are done at the start of the install process and they are done by the installer itself. Not sure what 'paths' to use? Not even sure what a path is? Don't know how to set up a MySql database or populate it? It doesn't matter because Family Connexions will do it all for you. All you need to tell the installer is the user name and password for your database and your database name and the installer will work out everything else automatically.

If you should get any error messages, they are meaningful and actually tell you, not only what went wrong, but how to fix it. In fact, I'm so confident that the installer will work on 99% of sites that, if it doesn't work for you, I will install Family Connexions for free on your behalf!

So, what do you actually need to do to get Family Connexions installed and running? You will need to be able to upload the files to your web server. This is usually done via an FTP client or through the file manager on your host control panel and is a very simple process. No more difficult than copying files from one folder to another on your local PC in fact. Then you need to know your user name, password and database name which you will give to the installer when it asks for it and, finally, you may need to change the permissions on some directories. Again, this is a very simple process and is covered by the installer.

From uploading the files and running the installer to entering your first family member can all be done in under seven minutes!

What do I need to run Family Connexions?

The requirements for running Family Connexions are very straightforward. All you need is some web space that will run PHP, a single MySql database and the ability to change some permissions (chmod).

Setting up is a breeze with the inbuilt installer. The installer will do all the work for you and it is fully automated. If you're not too sure about setting up, I am so confident that you won't have a problem that, if you do, I'll set it up for free on your behalf!
